Rubus calycinoides, commonly known as creeping raspberry, is a tough and versatile ground cover that adds both beauty and function to the landscape. Its dense, trailing growth habit creates a low, spreading mat of textured, deep green foliage that takes on striking bronze and red hues in the fall. Throughout summer, small, delicate white flowers appear, followed by tiny, red, raspberry-like fruits that attract birds and other wildlife. With its rugged, semi-evergreen nature and tolerance for poor soils, Rubus calycinoides is an excellent choice for erosion control, slopes, pathways, and rock gardens.

Beyond its ornamental appeal, this hardy plant is exceptionally low-maintenance, requiring minimal watering once established and thriving in both sun and partial shade. It resists deer and weeds, making it a reliable, trouble-free option for filling in difficult spaces. Whether used as a natural ground cover, a border accent, or to stabilize soil, Rubus calycinoides delivers year-round interest and durability. Add this resilient and attractive plant to your garden today for effortless coverage and lasting charm!

Comments: Rubus calycinoides or R. pentalobus is also known as Creeping Raspberry. It is native to Taiwan. This increasingly popular evergreen ground cover forms a dense mat. Leaves are slightly lobed and puckered. Small white flowers are insignificant. Fruit is edible. Fall foliage is the attraction. Not only is it beautiful during the growing season, but it turns to a lovely burgundy shade in fall and winter. Mature height is only 2 inches to 4 inches.

Creeping Raspberry thrives in full sun to partial shade in USDA climate zones 6 to 10, preferring average well-drained soil. Space from 18 inches to 24 inches apart.

Creeping Raspberry is deer resistant and drought tolerant. Though drought-tolerant, it should be watered regularly until established. It is a fine ground cover for small or large areas, great for container gardens, planters and fruit gardens.

Quality material.

Puppy/Dogs like. Not chewed up yet, and looks to be very sturdy. I like purchasing my puppy/dogs rope like toys. And this one is good.

Francie Isn't Interested
Size: Large
Cute, colorful and appears well made. I can't comment on how well it holds up to heavy chewing as my Jackshund (Francie) doesn't seem interested in it...possibly because it does not have a squeaker... It is a good size, not soft and squishy but harder (rope), which is why I purchased it, hoping it would last longer than some other dog toys that Francie has ripped apart. I may pass it on to two large granddogs.
