Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: The Philodendron plowmanii is a rare, slow-growing crawler with rippling, heart-shaped leaves that shimmer in shades of green and silver. A must-have for collectors seeking sculptural foliage and tropical drama.
✨ Why You'll Love It
- Quilted, leathery leaves with striking silver veining and deep green tones
- Unique crawling growth habit—perfect for low pots, shelves, or terrariums
- Ruffled petioles with a subtle pink hue add extra visual intrigue
- Ideal for European homes—thrives in typical indoor humidity and light conditions
- Slow-growing and low-maintenance, making it a rewarding long-term companion
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Suitable for north or east-facing windows or filtered light setups.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Maintain moderate to high humidity levels (60% or above) to mimic its native tropical environment.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix designed for aroids or orchids works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
⚠️ Not pet-safe: Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Grows slowly, reaching up to 30–45 cm in height. Propagate through division during repotting in spring or early summer.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Maintain consistent humidity and avoid cold drafts to keep the plant healthy year-round.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves: Often due to overwatering or poor drainage.
- Brown leaf tips: Indicative of low humidity; increase moisture levels.
- Pests: Watch for spider mites and mealybugs; treat promptly if detected.
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to the cloud forests of Ecuador and Peru, Philodendron plowmanii is named in honor of botanist Timothy Plowman. Its creeping, terrestrial habit and dramatic foliage make it a standout member of the Araceae family.
