Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner 1988

It's hard for us now to look back and realize what an improvement Snow Crystals was over all other Sweet Alyssum varieties when it arrived on the scene in 1988. Until Snow Crystals, Sweet Alyssum was a rather delicate annual, nicely fragrant and everything but short-blooming and subject to fall apart a bit when faced with rough wind or high heat. You grew it in a container with the full expectation that it would bloom for a few weeks and then you'd replace it, around about July, with something tougher for the high heat and humidity of the dog days.

Then Snow Crystals changed everything. It was the first tetraploid Sweet Alyssum, which means that it has twice the chromosomes of older (diploid) varieties. Twice the chromosomes means LOTS more vigor, as well as specific improvements such as much greater heat and wind tolerance, larger flower size, and longer staying power. Suddenly you could create edging or even groundcover with Sweet Alyssum, because Snow Crystals all reach the same size, bloom at the same time, and stay put in all their glory for months, not weeks.

Snow Crystals was immediately awarded the Fleuroselect Gold Medal (an honor not often bestowed), and it has never been improved upon. How could it be, really? These ¼-inch white blooms are so profuse that they form a neat canopy of color over the fresh green foliage. Their scent is ultra-sweet and pleasing, and lasts all season. They open in early summer and continue through the season everywhere, and often into autumn. And they form neat plants, just a few inches high when not in bloom but reaching up to 10 inches in flower, with a width of 8 to 10 inches too. Great in containers, beds, along the driveway, in street plantings, edging the foundation, and just about everywhere they can get full sunshine, they're trouble-free and so dependable.

Sweet Alyssum (also called Sweet Alison) is a great coastal planting, too. It loves the salt spray and doesn't mind sandier soils. It grow's readily from seed, and can be transplanted as soon as the soil has warmed and the nights are free of frost in spring. Every garden and patio container deserves this sweet-scented, pretty, pert little plant. Make Snow Crystals a central feature of your sunny spaces this season.

Good for general knowledge!
Format: Paperback
I'm an IT guy but not an Active Directory SME. If it doesn't have a command line and doesn't route or switch I quickly fall off the cliff of interest in it. That being said, I needed to have a good starting guide and future reference guide to Active Directory so after some Google'ing I settled on this book. While I haven't read it cover to cover yet, I have used it to study up on a few specific areas of AD. It's also got a permanent spot near by work desk for use as a reference guide as needed.

Good info that helps
Format: Paperback
This had info that helped our AD lockouts issues or at least ease the pain while our vendor figures it out. A powershell command that unlocks all AD users instead of having to unlock each one. In the troubleshooting section

More than just the most comprehensive book on AD
Format: Paperback
I have been working with Active Directory since it was released in 2000 and even before that if you count its predecessor Exchange's directory. I can confidently say that this is the most comprehensive book on Active Directory that I have ever read. Of course there are all of the basics like designing AD structures, migrations to AD 2022, management of objects and group policies but then all of the AD services are also covered in-depth like DNS, DS, LDS, FS, RMS and CS. Furthermore this book tackles trusts, database maintenance and backup and recovery. While not a book about Azure AD, there is a ton of information about Azure AD. The author takes the time and effort to compare AD with Azure AD and there are hundreds of references to Azure AD in terms of building out hybrid AD environments, federated identity and notes about how things are done in Azure AD versus AD. The chapter on PowerShell demonstrates scripts for both AD and Azure AD. Here is what I think makes this book special though, and it is how the entire context for the book is around security, identity and access management. Essentially this book can be viewed as a book on security, identity and access management that demonstrates how to practically implement those concepts in Active Directory and Azure AD. There is fantastic information that explains the concepts of identity and access management clearly and concisely and covers topics such as zero trust, privileged access management (PAM) and more. Then, these concepts are translated into how they are implemented in Active Directory. It's a great way to present the information as it provides real world context and clearly explains the purpose of Active Directory versus purely just describing technical features and functionality. This is the way all technical books should be written.

A great read for those who want in depth knowledge about MS Active Directory & related services
Format: Paperback
Reviewer: 20 yrs training and consulting experience with Windows Server, Exchange Server, Active Directory, all major hypervisors, and cloud services. Active Directory along with all the related services and features are complex and many faceted topics. Books showing step by step examples are easy to come by, although not very useful since there’s plenty of Microsoft online help with the same info. What’s more important is to understand the features and related services and how to use them properly and securely. This book covers in great detail Active Directory and the related services and features. There’s also plenty of information and expertise from a security perspective. With the move to cloud services and more employees are working from home there’s a whole new level of security issues to contend with. This book contains lots of in-depth explanations that allow you to understand why certain features and services exist and how to use them. This extra depth and the author’s experience is what makes this book special. I would recommend this book for IT Professionals that already have some AD knowledge and experience. My only qualification is that I occasionally found some of the explanations confusing even after reading them over a several times. I would highly recommend this book for those who wish to understand, configure and design an AD infrastructure along with associated services including OU design, group policy, object management delegation, ADFS, Certificate Services, etc. Although the book is not about Azure AD it does cover some aspects including integrating with on-prem AD.
