Brand Name: BASF
Product Overview:
Basta is a non-selective, post-emergent herbicide produced by BASF. It is primarily used for controlling annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and grasses in various crops, including tea and cotton.
Summary:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Mode of Action | Inhibits glutamine synthetase → ammonia buildup → plant cell death |
| Herbicide Group | HRAC Group 10 (formerly Group N) |
| Dosage | 0.75–3.3 L/ha depending on formulation and crop |
| Water Volume | Minimum 200 L/ha |
| Target Crops | Tea, cotton, plantation crops, zero-till systems, industrial sites |
| Visible Effects | Wilting in ~24 h; full kill in 1–2 weeks |
| Pre-Harvest Interval | Varies – e.g., 15 days in tea; 96 days in cotton |
Benefits:
- Broad-spectrum control: Effectively eliminates a wide range of annual and perennial weeds, including tough-to-kill species like Borreria and Eleusine.
- Post-emergent application: Applied after weeds have emerged, offering flexibility in timing.
- Contact action: Primarily works by contact action on the leaves, leading to chlorosis (yellowing) and desiccation within days.
- Relatively safe to crops: When applied with a hood in directed sprays, it minimizes contact with the main crop, making it safer compared to non-selective systemic herbicides.
- Versatile: Effective under different climatic conditions.
- Technical composition: Contains Glufosinate Ammonium 13.5% w/w SL as the active ingredient.
-
Mode of action: Inhibits the enzyme glutamine synthetase, essential for plant growth, ultimately leading to plant death.
