Formerly known as Cleome serrulata.

Don’t be fooled by the mountain range in the name, Rocky Mountain Bee Plant occurs across most of the West, including much of the inland Northwest

The other part of the name is accurate however -- this is possibly one of our best dryland plants for…well…attracting a ton of bees. We’ve long marveled at descriptions of this dazzling, gangly plant in old beekeeping books from the past century when it was praised for yielding more than a hundred pounds of honey per hive in under two weeks, building up 2 to 3 supers (surplus honey boxes) per hive over a 3-week period, and supplying nectar with sugar concentrations approaching an impressive 30%.

More than that however, this is simply a fascinating, useful, and joyful plant to have around. Valued by native people for centuries, beeplant or bee plant was noted by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, perhaps standing out for its outlandishly showy pink/white/purple flowers with their elongated stamens, which are nearly always covered in various pollinators.

Bee plant is an annual species that can reach a hearty 4 or 5 feet in height (often with multiple stems), and will tolerate dry, sandy soils, even some drought without much complaint, as well as a bit of shade from nearby scrub or pines at higher elevations. It also grows in harsh soils with concentrations of salts, metals, and minerals where other plants may be less than thrilled to grow.

Bee plant is storied for its many traditional uses including as a cooked vegetable, an edible seed that can be ground into meal or eaten directly. It’s been described as a medicinal plant, and noted for its properties as a dye plant.

In natural conditions Rocky Mountain bee plant might co-occur with blanketflower, blue bunch wheatgrass, plains coreopsis, Idaho fescue, and showy milkweed. Under the best of these conditions it can reseed itself nicely.

2 grams (Approximately 150-200 seeds).

Boxer Approved!
Size: Small, Style: Bristle Bone
One of my boxer girls (the fawn one in the video, 6 yrs old) hardly ever chews on things, my other boxer girl (the sealed brindle, 11 mos old) chews constantly and we're buying new nylabone chew toys 1-2 times a month for her. I wanted something to encourage my older girl to chew more for dental health and serotonin secretion, I know the benefits of chewing far outweigh the risks for dogs so I've been trying all kinds of things but hooves, ears and real bones get stinky and the girls stop caring for them after a few chew sessions, and my fawn baby only sometimes has interest in chew toys of any kind. When I found this with the different textures, materials (hard plastic, nylon bristles, rubber type discs, & jerky treat) I jumped for one, and it's a HUGE HIT! She loves it, my 11 mo old loves it, and I definitely need backups because they're going to love this one to death in a couple weeks- I'm so happy about that!! Between this and the new snuffle mat we bought at the same time, which both my girls go crazy for, I've finally found enrichment toys that boost my girls health both mentally and physically and they can BOTH get so much joy from them!!! Big wins for this dog momma, I'm ecstatic and grateful we've hit the spot for our babies!! Would recommend and will buy again 10/10, seems durable after at least 5 chew sessions giving the girls turns of 10-15 min each, the video shows the wear from those sessions and it's not too rough yet. Their breath smells better after each session, and my older girl who hardly ever chews sometimes gets bloody gums when she does chew, that's gone away now that she's chewing this toy regularly for about 2 weeks, twice a week (working our way up slowly to 3-4 times weekly). As you can see in the video, they don't even need the jerky treat anymore, they've fallen in love with the toy so much! But it helps encourage them to get their mouth working in different ways around the whole bone and not just one part, so I'll keep getting the treats for better overall coverage of the whole mouth getting cleaned. The size is a little small for my big boxer girls but not too small, they won't swallow any parts but they are mindful chewers, not too heavy-more like medium chewers, and they actually always choose the smaller toys over the big ones so it's perfect to pique their interest! Easy to take apart and clean, put in the treats and hand over to the dogs, they don't unscrew the end of the bone even if it gets a little loose during a chew sesh. We wash it with water after each use and set it out to dry, never gets stinky so far. Good value and great use for the money!

All 3 dogs, 3 different sizes and ages love it! Can’t go wrong!
Size: Medium, Style: Bristle Bone
Great! Super great! When you HAVE TO GET THEM OUT OF YOUR HAIR! This toy is durable even without the beef flavored insert! I have a Border Collie who has too much energy and an Aussie who can’t sit still and a small stray who is constantly figuring out a way to steal these from the other two! Safe, effective and actually cleans their teeth! This might well be my first Amazon review because this toy deserves it!

Dogs love them
Flavor Name: Peanut Butter, Size: 9.7 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I always give my dogs a bedtime snack. I saw these and decided to give them a try. My dogs absolutely love them. I think it's their favorite thing at night. They digest it well and enjoy the texture and taste. The sticks are just right for smaller dogs. They are easy to store in a container and don't crumble or break. My dogs eat them quickly and without problem. These are not a regular part of our bedtime routine.
