Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ is a rare and spectacular hybrid renowned for its serrated leaves and dramatic variegation. Mature foliage is deeply lobed and edged with jagged margins, creating a flame-like silhouette. Variegation is highly variable, ranging from bright orange, red, and pink to creamy yellow, chartreuse, and white, often all appearing on the same plant. New leaves typically emerge in warm tones of orange or red before fading into a mosaic of green and lighter shades, giving the plant its fiery name. Each specimen is unique, making it a true collector’s piece.

Family: Araceae
Origin: Hybrid cultivar, believed to be a cross involving Philodendron wendlandii and Philodendron tortum; introduced and popularised through aroid collectors’ circles.

Growth Habit

  • Evergreen, climbing philodendron with a moderate to slow growth rate.
  • Can reach 1–2 m in height when supported with a moss pole or trellis.
  • Leaves grow 20–40 cm long, heavily serrated with multicolored variegation.
  • Growth can be irregular, with variegation and size depending on light and conditions.

Light:

  • Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain strong variegation and coloration.
  • Will tolerate medium light but with reduced intensity of variegation.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn.

Watering:

  • Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy.
  • Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry.
  • Sensitive to overwatering; ensure excellent drainage.

Humidity:

  • Thrives in high humidity (60–80%).
  • Can adapt to household humidity but will produce larger, healthier leaves in humid conditions.

Temperature:

  • Optimal range: 20–28°C.
  • Keep away from drafts and cold air; avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Soil:

  • Requires a well-draining, chunky aroid mix.
  • Benefits from added aeration to mimic its epiphytic tendencies.

Fertilisation:

  • Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser.
  • Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Pruning & Maintenance:

  • Minimal pruning needed beyond removing old or damaged foliage.
  • Support with a moss pole or totem for best growth habit and larger leaves.

Thus is Great
They so far are indestructible in the jaws of my two large German Shepards. To be fair, this is NOT a ball to toss because it seems to be more in the cannonball family than in the soft dog toy world. Each of my pups love their Monster K9 balls but when they drop it on our hardwood floors, the whole household knows where they are.

Great toy but never received the replacement they offer.
It’s is a very durable toy. But not indestructible. My dog loves the ball and it did last 4 months which is much longer than any of his other toys. I emailed the company to see if they honored their one time replacement policy for Amazon orders. I was told they do and was told I was shipped a replacement. But we never received it. We’ve ordered plenty from Amazon before and after this so I don’t know where the hold up would of happened but here we are. I did email the company back and told them that I didn’t receive the replacement and asked if they could verify my address….but they haven’t responded. Just sucks. Would of been great if I actually got the replacement!

My HEAVY chewers favorite ball
It's dense and has some weight to it, can definitely get good distance when throwing and it bounces a long way. It's soft enough for my dog to chew on but tough enough that even with her destroying every toy I get her she looses these before ever tearing into them. About softball size.

Safe
I normally don't write reviews but these products deserve the effort! I bought 4 different black toys from this Brand and all are still intact after 6 months heavy usage by 2 aggressive chewers (a Belg Malinois & black Lab), fantastic products and unlike so many other brands promising to be indestructible, these are the first toys that were not eaten within a month. No more visits to Vet to pay for Xrays after digesting plastic or rubber from badly made toys. Highly recommended.
