Este árbol adora crecer cerca de ríos o estanques.  Sus raíces tienen una capacidad impresionante para absorber humedad, lo que los convierte en excelentes árboles para evitar la erosión del suelo.  De todos modos, hay que tener cuidado con sus raíces que son muy invasivas y pueden dañar tuberías o cimientos.

La corteza del Sauce contiene un compuesto llamado salicina, que es el precursor natural de la aspirina.  Durante siglos, las culturas antiguas han utilizado infusiones de corteza de Sauce como remedio para aliviar el dolor, bajar la fiebre y reducir la inflamación.
