A living velvet jewel: Philodendron gloriosum Dark Form
Philodendron gloriosum Dark Form | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: With heart-shaped, velvety leaves in a deep, dramatic green and bright white veins, this rare Philodendron gloriosum Dark Form brings pure botanical luxury into your home. Perfect for adding a striking tropical statement to German apartments and European living spaces.
✨ Why You'll Love the Philodendron gloriosum Dark Form
- Velvety, dark emerald leaves with strong white venation
- A true collector’s item for rare plant lovers
- Creeping growth habit—perfect for long, shallow planters
- Air-purifying qualities to freshen your indoor air
- Thrives in warm European homes with medium humidity
🌞 Light & Placement
This Philodendron prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch its velvety foliage. Perfect for spots near east- or north-facing windows in German apartments.
💧 Water & Humidity
Keep the soil consistently slightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm to dry out before watering again. Loves moderate to high humidity (50–70%), making it ideal for bathrooms or paired with a humidifier during dry European winters.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix (orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir). Since it grows as a crawler, choose a wide, shallow pot to support its natural rhizome growth pattern.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Not pet-safe. Like most Philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalates which can irritate cats, dogs, and small children if ingested.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
This Philodendron creeps horizontally rather than climbing. As it grows, new leaves unfurl larger and more dramatic. Propagation is easiest through rhizome cuttings, placed in water or directly into moist substrate.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
During winter in Europe, reduce watering and keep away from cold drafts. In spring and summer, fertilize monthly with a gentle liquid fertilizer to encourage lush, velvety growth.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellow leaves → overwatering
- Crispy edges → too little humidity
- Slow growth → insufficient light
🧬 Botanical Background
The Philodendron gloriosum Dark Form is a rare variant of the classic Philodendron gloriosum, celebrated for its darker leaf color and more defined venation. Native to Colombia, it belongs to the Araceae family and has become one of the most coveted foliage plants for collectors across Europe.
