The classic six-seed mix that works coast to coast.

Some things earn their place by simply working, year after year, across every region and every backyard. Traditional Mix is that blend. Seven premium seeds — millet, milo, wheat, black oil sunflower, gray striped sunflower, corn, and peanut hearts — come together in a time-tested formula that attracts buntings, chickadees, doves, finches, jays, juncos, sparrows, woodpeckers, and more. If you want a single bag that keeps a wide variety of birds coming back reliably, this is it.

What's in the blend.

Seven ingredients, each with a purpose: black oil sunflower for the broadest appeal, gray striped sunflower for larger birds, white millet for sparrows and juncos, milo for ground feeders, wheat for additional variety, cracked corn for doves and ground-feeding species, and peanut hearts for the nut-seekers. A true all-season, all-region formula.

  • Black oil sunflower — the universal favorite, attracts the most species
  • Gray striped sunflower — preferred by cardinals, grosbeaks, and jays
  • White millet — loved by sparrows, juncos, towhees, and doves
  • Milo — attracts ground-feeding birds in western regions
  • Wheat — adds variety for ground feeders
  • Cracked corn — draws doves, juncos, and larger ground feeders
  • Peanut hearts — attracts woodpeckers, nuthatches, and chickadees
  • 5 lb resealable bag — available exclusively at Duncraft

Birds attracted: Indigo Buntings, Black-capped Chickadees, Mourning Doves, House Finches, Purple Finches, Blue Jays, Dark-eyed Juncos, Song Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Downy Woodpeckers, Northern Cardinals, and many more.

How to feed: Works in any hopper, platform, or tray feeder. A hopper or platform feeder gives the widest variety of birds comfortable access to all seven seeds. Ground-feeding species like sparrows, juncos, and doves will also forage for seeds that fall below the feeder, making a tray or ground feeder a useful addition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What birds does Traditional Mix attract?
Traditional Mix is formulated to attract the widest possible variety of common backyard birds, including chickadees, cardinals, finches, sparrows, juncos, doves, jays, woodpeckers, and buntings. The seven-seed formula covers the dietary preferences of both seed-cracking songbirds and ground-feeding species, making it one of the most versatile blends available.

Is Traditional Mix good for all regions of the country?
Yes. The blend is specifically designed with cross-country appeal. The combination of sunflower, millet, corn, and peanut hearts attracts birds in every region of North America. Milo, which is included in the mix, is particularly popular with ground-feeding birds in western states, while the sunflower and millet components perform equally well in eastern and midwestern regions.

Does Traditional Mix contain filler seeds?
Traditional Mix contains milo and wheat, which some birders consider lower-value seeds. However, both ingredients attract specific species — milo is popular with ground-feeding birds in western regions, and wheat adds variety for ground feeders. The blend is designed to maximize variety across all regions, not to be a no-waste blend. If you prefer a 100% no-waste option, consider Super No-Waste Blend or Four Seasons No-Waste.

What feeder works best with Traditional Mix?
A hopper feeder or platform feeder works best because it gives birds of all sizes comfortable access to the full blend. Ground-feeding species like sparrows, juncos, and doves will also forage for seeds that fall below the feeder. A tray feeder placed at ground level alongside your main feeder is an excellent addition for attracting the full range of species the blend is designed to draw in.

Is Traditional Mix good for year-round feeding?
Yes. The blend is designed for all-season use. The sunflower and peanut heart content provides the high-energy fat birds need in winter, while the variety of seeds appeals to spring and summer nesters as well as fall migrants. It is one of the most reliable year-round blends for attracting a consistent variety of backyard birds.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
