The brand's second model (and second 100% original circuit), the Dr. Roberts is a pedal that will please many, many guitarists, take our word for it! ACLAM is a Spanish brand based in Barcelona. This one very quickly became a reference for pedalboards and it is now attacking the market for high-end effects pedals. The Dr. Roberts is, as you will see, a pedal in its own right, in terms of its development and the sounds it delivers.

A bit of history... Do you know Klaus Voormann? Klaus is a German artist, musician and record producer. He is also a friend of the Beatles whom he met when they were starting out. He is also known for his illustration work, in particular the cover of the album Revolver in 1966. You will tell us, what is the relation with this pedal? Well, the Dr. Robert is the closest replica of a legendary and rare VOX UL730 amp, used on the Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's. Can you see more clearly? What could be better than having the aesthetics and the sound of these albums within a simple pedal? Well that's Aclam Dr. Roberts! A mythical sound and design, typical of the Beatles.

The biggest problem for the Aclam team was to find one of the 100 VOX UL370s manufactured. Most of them have been destroyed or are no longer in working order. After getting their hands on one of these amps, the team dissected the amp, analyzed each component and transformed the original circuit by staying as close as possible to it, while making it fit into a pedal format. Everything has been kept, down to the voltage of the amp (18V)

First thing, the packaging is extremely neat. It is rare to see such attention to detail. When you open the box, you find the pedal in a small "very soft" bag that takes up the aesthetics of the album cover. There are also stickers sharing the same aesthetics , a nicely printed manual, very good quality Velcro, cut to the dimensions of the pedal etc... In short, it looks very good.

Aesthetically, the pedal surprises. Very light, it has two screws on the sides, and everyone wonders: "but what is this thing?" Well dear guitarist friends, these little knobs allow you to fix the pedal without velcro-ising, sticking, persing or anything. You pose, you turn and it holds! Magic! You're going to say, "uh yes, but not on my pedalboard?". Right, you need an Aclam pedalboard. Go take a look, they are the best on the market! And don't worry, the pedal attaches in the traditional way to any other pedalboard. Smart is the Barcelonan!

The exterior finish is impeccable, so we open to see what is happening inside. High quality PCB, very well designed with a smart layout, very good quality relays, sorted components. What's in there: Carbon resistors, Nichicon Fine Gold and Wima caps, Alpha polars and switches... It's top of the range and the attention to detail is pushed to the inside.

Guitar in hand, plugged into a Two-Rock amp, the pedal impresses from the very first seconds with its silent functioning. Putting the gain at 12:00, you get a drive typical of the English amp brand, with however, a thicker rendering, lower midrange, less aggressive than an AC30. The Mid knob is rarely seen responsive. It really allows you to sculpt your sound in an extremely precise way. Don't worry, bass and treble settings are also available inside the pedal. The pedal delivers a dynamic rarely seen, and plunges us directly into the sounds of the 60s - 70s. Importantly, the effect's response is a model of its kind, and its ability to "clean" the volume knob like the original amp would is impressive. It's a pedal that is controlled like an amp, at your fingertips. The spectrum is balanced, with a rich and punchy low end. The JFET works beautifully and the pedal sounds overall "amp like".
By pushing the gain a little further, we reach classic rock sounds that please the ears. With an increasingly dense and fluid grain. The Mach Schau! allows you to engage an additional floor to promote solos. It has a separate volume control. It adds gain and volume, but does not alter the pedal's ability to retain articulation and headroom, even when turning down the volume knob. A true role model.

It should also be noted that the Dr. Robert can be used with both a guitar and a bass. This one having a wide frequency spectrum available and enough headroom and dynamics.

In the end, this Aclam Dr. Robert is a Boost, an Overdrive, a Distortion and a solid replica of a mythical amp, in addition to being a collector's item. The quality of the work of Klaus Voormann for the visuals and of the Aclam team for the sound, make this Dr. Robert a must of its kind, and the only option for those who would like to get closer to the mythical sound of these 2 huge albums that are Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's.

Mastery is the goal, The Laws of Human Nature is the Truth
Format: Hardcover
Mastery is the goal. It’s us striving for our best. It’s optimistic. The Laws of Human Nature is what we actually are. I read the first chapter and put it down for a week. I knew I trusted the author and that I could gain incredible insight in finishing the book. But I had to drop my expectations and comparisons to his other work and wrap my head around the journey I was going to take. Now I am near the end of the book and feel incredibly connected to myself. Here’s why: I’ve become spoiled with the author’s other works—learning the game, how to win, manipulate, and grow. But to me, regarding his other works, it always felt like the weaknesses rested on my adversaries. I was above them. I had secret weapons. This is no longer the case. Maybe it’s also an age and perspective thing. I started his books in my early 20’s and now I’m older. I am more grounded in my ability to understand others and my arrogance has been replaced with curiosity. My existential crises come out in jokes rather than tears and I’ve accepted that absolutely everything is absurd. (I’ve also read The Denial of Death by Ernest Becker and come to terms with my impermanence which makes Laws of Human Nature less tragic to take on.) I loved the scientific and historical examples throughout. Trusting the author, I didn’t mind that the format was a bit different than his other works. Typically, they begin with an historical example and are followed by a breakdown then a law. This book is the opposite. I didn’t mind being presented information first, followed by historical or scientific examples later as it gave me room to find the examples in my own life first. I think this book isn’t meant to be skimmed and that the formatting is intentional. The reader needs to be ready to look at the uglier parts of themselves. To really delve in, I had to realize that I am not the exception to any of the rules or laws outlined in his other work. I am the rule. I almost wished I had read this one first. I’ve used his other work to build my life circumstances, but not so often reflected on my own weaknesses in such a microscopic way as required by The Laws of Human Nature. It causes one to breakdown themselves and their processes and doesn’t throw a stone on the adversary or tackle external circumstances as much in my opinion. In Laws of Human Nature, I am both the adversary and the obstacle. This book is a true exercise in humility and honest self-reflection. It’s not the game tape outlined in the author’s other works. It is the finish line. It brings us back to the beginning—our true ugly, flawed, selfish selves. Get through the grieving process to acceptance, and this is an incredible book.

Lovely
Format: Paperback
Good book, but you know the usual has its fluff, but that’s all Robert Green books. However, the stories are unmatched and if you have a vivid imagination, you’ll be able to understand and comprehend what’s going on ,it’s lovely.

Different, but in a good way
Format: Paperback
I have read all of Robert Greenes previous books, and I always walked away in amazement. I would see the negative reviews those books received, but I would always ignore them and thank God that I did. That compelled me to buy this book once I saw it was released and once again, the negative review bugs are back out. Normally, I wouldn’t write a review on a book because I would rather the reader form their own opinion. This book is different, and I would like to address this for anyone who is a Robert Greene fan or in the process of becoming one. This book is exactly what every human alive needs to read, which is why I am writing this review to stop the second guessers. It focuses on how our emotions are destructive and how we must be careful about how freely we let them out now. Yes, the style is different from his past books. He goes into narratives about the different emotions, what they can do, and how we can control them while occasionally touching on how they played out in history. For many fans of his previous books, this can be disappointing as we are used to reading thrilling tales throughout history and how they play into the law he is explaining in that chapter with side bar quotes of knowledge from historic figures. I understand why he could not take that approach with this book, as he wanted to focus more on explaining the emotions on a psychological level instead of a historical one. Is there entertaining and historic tales in the book? Yes, somewhat but nowhere near like his past books. I ask that you open your mind to this book and allow your knowledge to grow in a world where emotional control is decaying. Like he said in this book, don’t let your emotional impulses cloud your judgement. Step back, take a second, reassess and approach this book with a clear mind. You will thank me for it.

In-depth and comprehensive
Format: Kindle
This book was so full of information about the human animal. Is the only wish I had this information earlier in my life. I wish my kids would read it, and perhaps they will. It's very in depth and leaves me reflecting on how I want to change some of my thinking and behaviors like no other book I've read. I wish I belonged to a book club just to discuss it with other readers! I don't necessarily agree with everything that the author states. But it was a most thought provoking book and I read allot of books! Allot of work went into the writing of this book. Near perfect editing which I appreciated. I am a big fan of human psychology and it held my interest and kept me up too late not wanting to put it down!
