The best of both worlds. The special geometry of the frame and fork makes the Makai fast on the beach and comfortable on gravel! The Storm Makai is a real game changer.

The unique frame, which is specifically built for a gravel/road handlebar, combines speed and comfort better than ever. The Makai is not only the first aerodynamic beach bike, but is also completely ready for the latest gravel trend: wide 50mm or even wider tires

Sand, gravel, or bikepacking — the Storm Makai is your go-to bike for any adventure.

The name "Makai" comes from Hawaiian and means "towards the sea" or "towards the ocean."

Born in Petten

On the coast of Petten aan Zee, the cycling enthusiasts of Beukers Bike Centre have been building beach bikes for over 25 years. And they are always looking for improvements and more speed!

The new Storm Makai was no different; from a glued together 3D print of the frame (where we could fit and measure everything), to the prototype coming in (where the Biketeam.nl riders could give their input), to the final version. All (beach) bike experience now comes together in this bike!
The 3D model

The first forks

2024, the first rideable prototype. This bike has been tested in all conditions. Among others by the Dutch Beach Race Champion, Rick van Breda.

Aero, yet comfortable

A higher head tube slower? Definitely not! In the professional peloton, it has been seen for some time that the position of the handlebars is increasingly rising during time trials. The higher “stack” and slightly shorter “reach” make it easier to maintain the fastest position with your head between your shoulders. Without the need for many spacers. More aerodynamics, comfort and speed!

The narrow aerodynamic front and rear forks also provide “free Watts” while still giving the Storm Makai enough clearance not to fill up with mud in bad conditions.

Tire Clearance

The Storm Makai has a very generous tire clearance. Are you going into the mud and want extra space between the tires and your frame? Then you can ride with a 45mm tire.

If you're going for speed over rough terrain with perhaps the occasional bit of sand, then 50mm is ideal.

On the beach or rough gravel 60mm (2.35) is still the most ideal. The Makai is currently the only ''gravelbike'' in which a 60mm beach tire fits on a wide rim while there is more than enough space between frame and tire. Even if you mount a wide tire with knobs!

That makes the Makai extra versatile!

A large cover

The Makai is specifically made for 1x12 and 1x13 electronic groupsets, and for high speeds you need a large chainring. A challenge in combination with the wide tires, but essential with a wind force of 7 or 8 in the back.

Unlike many other beach bikes, where a custom chainring needs to be mounted to make it fit, the Storm Makai frame is designed to fit a standard crank and chainring. This gives you the ideal chainline, which in turn ensures less wear and more efficiency.

For the real speed devils, it even fits a 48 tooth chainring as shown in the photo below!

Adventure? Bikepacking!

As few attachment points as possible, yet a rear carrier. If you really want to go for adventure, you can!

Unlike many aerodynamic racing bikes, we have chosen a narrower headset. This not only saves weight, but also ensures that a frame bag can be easily mounted, for example.

There is also a mount for a top tube bag. Ideal for long rides, because gels or bars fit easily in here. Which leaves you with more space in your pockets!

Wheelset. Wide.

The well-known Storm 4-Shore wheelset has been given a new name: B42. The shape of the rim has remained unchanged. But with less spokes (24) and a renewed carbon lay-up, the 33mm wide wheelset has become even lighter!

The B42 is designed with a lower profile, which provides better performance in crosswinds, especially when paired with wide tires such as the G-One Speed Pro.

DT350 hubs provide extra reliability, while the 12x142 (rear) and 12x100 (front) mounting widths ensure that you can fit any gravel wheelset in the Makai.

The first 4-Shore (B42) wheelset was introduced seven years ago and has become an indispensable part of the beach. But also in gravel, rims are becoming wider; for example, Zipp now has a wheelset with an inner width of 32mm. 1mm narrower than the B42.

The name and the ''face''

The name Makai was chosen because it reflects the versatility of the bike. "Makai" comes from Hawaiian and means "towards the sea" or "towards the ocean."

The Storm Makai is designed to bring together the best of both worlds: the comfort and agility for riding over gravel and rough trails, but also the speed and stability for a nice ride on the beach.

The logo/''face'' is based on a traditional Hawaiian mask. A colorful art object that is often used in rituals or as a decorative item. The M with a solid line stands for the integrated racing wheel/drop bar, while these can also be seen as the eyebrows. The two stripes or the Makai ''mouth''? These stand for gravel and the coast.

UDH

Universal Derailleur Hanger, or simply in Dutch: a universal rear hanger! The Storm Makai frame is specially developed for the latest type of rear hanger. The big advantage? This rear hanger is available everywhere and is also very strong. Thanks to this innovative design, the top model of SRAM does not even need a rear hanger at all.

But there’s more: In the event of an impact, the rear dropout pivots away to prevent damage to the derailleur and frame. And the design also provides smoother, more precise shifting.

Details

We have worked with great care and attention from the start and only released the frame when it was absolutely perfect. A good example of this is the unique front fork, which is closed on one side. This not only makes the bike a little faster, but also gives it a sleek and striking design. You can choose between 140 mm or 160 mm discs, depending on your preference.

A round 27.2 seatpost with a normal clamp: More resistant to salt and sand and a dropper post can be mounted if necessary.

And then there is another clever detail added. A small hole at the bottom of the frame, so that any water can easily drain away.

Geometry

To determine the correct frame size, every Makai always first undergoes a standard bike fit from perfectbikefit.nl.

For the numbers lovers:

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.

Interesting
Format: Kindle
So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.

I’m a little disappointed.
Format: Kindle
I usually like Jillian West’s books but this one was missing a lot for me. The pregnancy didn’t come across as real. She’s on her feet for 12 hour days but is perfectly healthy at 8 months pregnant? Yet the week she moves in all of a sudden she’s not? She is planning on actually running during one of the plot buildups. But at 8 months pregnant that’s incredibly hard to do. The lack of breathing ability and lung space, the change in body center, mass, and gravity. All of it prohibits running, unless you’re an athlete this didn’t come off as at all realistic. I didn’t feel any connection with the alphas. There wasn’t any emotional connection. It could be because of the tense it was written in. But I didn’t get any deep feelings out of this. It came across as checking off boxes. Even the spicy scenes weren’t really believable for me. I wanted to see them fall for her, and it just kind of all fizzled. Even Bishop. One thing I did really like was the ending. I did not see it coming and I’m interested in reading book two because of it. But on the whole this book was mostly disappointing for me.
