This vintage 1950s basque-waist cocktail dress looks exactly like a Little Black Dress Audrey Hepburn would have worn in the late 1950s. The cut is incredible, and a testament to how great design can turn something as simple as a little black dress into something so noteworthy. The neckline gives the vibe of Audrey Hepburn's iconic Givenchy dress in Breakfast at Tiffanys.The bodice is fitted, dipping down to a basque-waist shape. What's really incredible is the pleating along the waistband that creates exaggerated volume at the hips, almost like a peplum. It also just so happens to make the waist look TINY. This is the EXACT silhouette that Vivienne Westwood has be reinterpreting for years and years (see below)— now is your chance to snag one of her references! Everything from the scoop neckline to the pleat detailing is so elegant. The pleated area at the hips is backed in Pellon interfacing to allow it to maintain its structure and volume. Note that it is miraculously quite bra-friendly.
