Wearing History #R145–  Begonia Mid 1930s Pattern

E-PATTERN!  To print at home on US LETTER or A4 paper.  Also includes Copy Shop A0 files!

This lovely mid 1930s dress features a v-neck cut with a semi-circular attached cape, and an optional cape ruffle and bow, The skirt hits mid-calf, and is slim fitted through the hips and flares below the knees. The dress fastens at the side. The neckline and armholes are finished with self bias facing.

The dress is perfect for day or afternoon wear, and makes up nicely in flowing fabrics.  I suggest cotton lawn, rayon, eyelet, lace, or other flowing, lightweight fabrics.  Note– no slip is included, so if it's sheer you'll want to make or buy a slip!

This pattern is available in two size packs.  See photos for the sizes included!

The misses size pack is from the original period source and is available in bust 30"-42".  The base size was 38" bust.  This has been graded to include the same size range as the pattern was originally available in (only one size per pack in ye olden days!).

The extended size pack was redrafted to a new base size and is available in bust 41"-51". The original vintage pattern didn't grade properly to that size, so the base size was entirely redrafted to fit a body form of 45" bust.  This draft is unique to Wearing History and enables more sizes. Yay!

Between size packs?  Order the extended size pack if you have a larger hip to waist ratio.

Difficulty

Adventurous intermediate sewing difficulty recommended.

The pattern instructions are from the period original and can be vague.  Keep a sewing book handy for reference.

This pattern requires bias facing for armholes and neck opening, and an inset front piece on the cape can be a bit tricky.  This pattern has a side opening with snaps.

I have added a page of illustrated instructions to help you with the construction on the cape piece.  Bias facing tutorials can be found on Wearing History Blog.

3/8" seam allowance is included.  Add more before you cut if you feel more comfortable with wider seam allowances.

This is a Wearing History Resto-Vival pattern- a pattern based on remastered original period sources that have been restored and revived.  Want to know more about this range?  Check out my F.A.Q.

Solid Choice for Everyday Use
Would definitely order again when I run out. Sometimes the basics done well beat the alternatives trying too hard to be special. If you're looking for dependable napkins that won't let you down during dinner or cleanup time, these deliver. No fancy features, no gimmicks - just straightforward functionality at a fair price.

Simple, Durable, and a Great Pantry Staple
I bought these because they were inexpensive, and they turned out to be exactly what I expected in a good way. They’re durable, have the size and softness of a standard everyday napkin, and the absorbency is solid for normal meals and spills. The pack is a good size—it fits easily in my pantry but still holds a lot of napkins, so it lasts a long time before needing to restock. If you’re just looking for simple, reliable napkins at a great price, these are a really good value.

Good Value Napkins for Everyday Use
These napkins are a good everyday option. The size is large, they’re affordable, and the quality is good for the price. I like that they have a textured surface, which makes them more useful than plain napkins. They are a bit thin, so I didn’t give 5 stars, but for daily meals and regular use, they work great. Overall, a solid and budget-friendly product.
