This ultra rare dress was look number 53, modeled by the beautiful Rose Smith. Not only is this well-documented piece an important archival find, but it also embodies such beautiful artistry. Vogue stated about the collection, "Lagerfeld has proved himself a master of this high-low hybrid in recent times. Here, formal eighteenth-century details, like panniers and fichus, were re-created in casual twenty-first-century fabrics—chambray, tech denims, even plastics—dressed up with frothy lace ruffles and cuffs, and dressed down with gold platform trainers and short shorts. Occasionally awkward though it may have been, the lightness, the girlishness of the clothes had a balletic quality, reflective perhaps of Louis' own love of dance. Lagerfeld said he wanted something floating and frivolous." The fabrics that create this ethereal showstopper are a stroke of genius; the textured silk and mixed material ruffles combine to synthesize Karl’s vision of “Versailles in Socialist France.”  I love the alluring raw-edged technique along the bottom of the piece. The hem is lavishly trimmed with layers of lace, pleated plastic, and silk. I especially adore the bow-trimmed ruched cap-sleeve bodice with decorative embellished buttons beneath the shoulder.
