This antique mahogany chest of drawers is a beautifully characterful early 19th century piece, dating to around 1830, with a rich mahogany colour, raised gallery back and classic two-over-two drawer layout. The gallery gives the chest a lovely decorative lift while also adding a practical edge, helping smaller items feel more contained when placed on top.
Made from mahogany, it has a warm, deep tone that works especially well in traditional homes, country interiors, cottage interiors and period-style bedrooms. It would sit beautifully in a bedroom, guest room, hallway, landing or dressing space, offering useful storage without feeling too large or overpowering.
The two short drawers over two long drawers give a very practical layout for everyday use. The drawers are deep and smooth sliding, making the chest ideal for clothing, linens, accessories or general household storage. The original mahogany knob handles with mother of pearl inlay are a lovely detail, adding a touch of refinement without taking away from the simple, honest look of the piece.
The raised gallery back, turned supports and warm mahogany grain all help give this chest a strong period feel. It has the sort of useful, attractive proportions that make antique furniture easy to live with — decorative enough to stand out, but practical enough for daily use.
Restored and ready to use, with minor signs of age and wear in keeping with its age. The drawers run smoothly, the colour is particularly attractive, and the overall look is smart, warm and well settled.
