This 1959 L9 (L=1950s, 9 = '59) Bulova dress watch is a perfect example of that spirit.
Housed in a 14K yellow gold case measuring 33mm, the watch immediately stands out thanks to its sharply sculpted angular lugs, giving the otherwise classic round case a bold, almost modernist profile. There’s a hint of WPA-era Depression Modern design in the geometry — clean lines, purposeful shapes, and just enough flourish to keep things interesting.
The dial is equally compelling. Rendered in a soft cream tone with a textured inner ring, it features large, stylized applied 'dart' markers that catch the light beautifully. Slender 'alpha' hands sweep across the dial, while a sub-seconds register at six o’clock adds both visual balance and mechanical charm.
At just 6.3mm thick, the watch wears slim and elegant on the wrist, powered by a 17-jewel manual-winding 11AF movement that reflects Bulova’s long tradition of reliable watchmaking. Love these shoes, they're super comfy. Laces stayed tied all day. I wear them in a business casual environment, or if I'm going out for a nice meal with my wife. They look good, the color is unassuming and neutral. they also elevate my height, I feel like it gives me an inch or so more versus regular shoes. This is my second pair!
