Anthurium furcatum – Rare Foliage and Expert Care Guide

Anthurium furcatum is an exceptional species within the Anthurium genus, recognized for its deeply lobed, glossy green leaves with a unique forked shape. Endemic to Ecuador, this species thrives in humid, shaded environments, making it a sought-after addition for plant enthusiasts who appreciate rare tropical plants.

Key Features of Anthurium furcatum

  • Distinctive Leaf Shape – Deeply lobed, elongated leaves with a forked structure, adding a sculptural element to any plant collection.
  • Velvety Texture – The foliage has a subtle sheen and a rich green color, reflecting light beautifully.
  • Epiphytic Growth – Naturally grows as an epiphyte but adapts well to potted cultivation indoors.

Essential Information on Anthurium furcatum

  • Native Environment – Found in Ecuador's humid, tropical montane forests, thriving under dappled light.
  • Indoor Size – Typically reaches 60-90 cm in height with a spread of 45-60 cm when mature.
  • Growth Speed – Moderate growth, producing new leaves regularly under optimal conditions.
  • Toxicity – Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation if ingested by pets or humans.

Caring for Anthurium furcatum

  • Light Requirements – Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun exposure, which may scorch the delicate leaves.
  • Watering – Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Humidity Levels – Requires 60-80% humidity. Ideal for terrariums or rooms with high moisture levels.
  • Optimal Temperature – Grows best in temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. Protect from cold drafts.
  • Soil Mix – A well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coconut coir works best.
  • Fertilization – Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth.

Common Issues and How to Fix Them

  • Yellowing Leaves – Often a sign of overwatering. Ensure proper drainage and adjust watering accordingly.
  • Brown Leaf Tips – Can indicate low humidity; increase moisture levels using a humidifier.
  • Pests – Susceptible to mealybugs and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap , neem oil, or use beneficial insects.

Additional Growing Tips

  • Support Needs – Providing a moss pole can encourage stronger vertical growth.
  • Airflow Considerations – Ensure good ventilation to prevent fungal issues in high-humidity environments.
  • Repotting Schedule – Repot every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and allow for root expansion.

To successfully grow Anthurium furcatum, mimic its natural rainforest conditions by maintaining high humidity and ensuring consistent moisture without overwatering.

Held up well first season in rain and snow, compartments a little shallow
Color: Camouflage
Overall these are a good product. The fit was good on my 2014 Honda Rancher AT, and they stay put when riding. I have left it out in rain and snow, and the contents stay dry so far. They seem pretty durable, but a few seasons exposed to sun and hot/cold will show for sure. The detachable "purse" pouch is kind of cheesy. Not sure I would ever need that feature. THe other pockets are fine for keeping things separated and out of the elements. I think if you put heavy metal items like a hammer and nails in there it would wear through it. But good for everyday stuff like gloves and keys and cell phones and water bottles. The other thing that seemed a little off was the depth of the pockets. When new the zipper openings are hard to spread apart, and inside you can't put anything very bulky unless it compresses easy like a fleece coat or gloves. So you would still need a rack bag for bulkier items. For me it does the job of keeping odds and ends accessible and not left on the trail someplace.

Decent product!

Just put it on today. Put my phone and wallet in the top pockets. Took a ride up through the back of my property and didn't lose anything. Can't complain but time will tell. You guy's are lucky I didn't give you 1 star for the annoying reminders of a review before I used the product.

Solidly Built
Solidly built. Easy install. Haven't used them on the trail yet but if they work like they look I don't expect any issues.
