Planting 100% Kentucky Bluegrass Seed
Planting Kentucky Bluegrass seed, or seeding a new sod lawn, is a popular choice for customers. Prepare the area the same way as when sodding a lawn. Ensure the area is tilled and cleaned from waste. Then, apply fresh topsoil and roll the area. We recommend 1 yard of topsoil for every 200 sq ft. Plant your 100% Kentucky Bluegrass seed, making sure the KBG grass seed is slightly tucked beneath the surface to avoid birds and other animals from eating the grass seed. Re-apply another layer of grass seed across the lawn a few weeks after.
Watering Kentucky Bluegrass Seed
For the first few weeks, the sod lawn should be kept moist to give the Kentucky Bluegrass seed the proper conditions to germinate. Avoid over-watering and be sure to water in the morning between 5 am - 12 pm, avoiding watering at night. Once the grass seed has germinated and grown, follow regular watering instructions.
Mowing Kentucky Bluegrass Seed
You can mow your 100% Kentucky Bluegrass seed sod lawn after a few weeks once the grass seed has grown (generally an average of 6 weeks). The s0d blades may be uneven heights, so set your lawnmower to the highest setting for the first mow. Be sure the grass lawn is dry when mowing, DO NOT mow a wet sod lawn.
