Summary: Known for its dramatic, hole-punched leaves, the Monstera adansonii brings instant jungle vibes to any room. This trailing or climbing houseplant is beloved for both its beauty and its beginner-friendly care.
✨ Why You'll Love It
- Iconic fenestrated leaves for a bold, architectural look
- Thrives in hanging baskets or climbing up moss poles
- Low-maintenance and adaptable – perfect for busy plant lovers
- A natural air purifier, great for home or office
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light, but fenestrations are more pronounced with brighter conditions. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch its delicate leaves.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Loves moderate humidity (50–70%), so mist occasionally or place near a humidifier, especially in winter.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix – an aroid mix with coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal. Repot every 1–2 years to support root health and growth.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Slightly toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of curious pets and small children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Fast grower with trailing or climbing habits. Propagate easily via stem cuttings with a node – root in water or soil for new baby plants!
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during spring and summer. In colder months, reduce feeding and monitor humidity closely.
🐛 Common Issues
Look out for spider mites and mealybugs. Yellowing leaves often indicate overwatering. Prune leggy vines to encourage fuller growth.
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to Central and South America, Monstera adansonii thrives in warm, humid jungles. Its name honors French botanist Michel Adanson, and it’s part of the Araceae family alongside philodendrons and alocasias.
