This is an insert / organizer for Quacks of Quedlinburg, the full Herb Witches expansion, the locoweed recipe books and general fortune cards from the Alchemists expansion, the BGG GeekUp bits, and the BGG GeekUp bags.  It has no lid lift, supports premium sleeves (Gamegenic Prime shown in the photos), supports vertical storage, and was designed to aid setup and teardown.

There are a lot of great Quacks inserts out there already.  I decided to make this version to support the way I like to set up and play.  While I like playing the Alchemists expansion from time to time, we primarily like to mix in only the Alchemists recipes and the fortune cards that are not Alchemists-specific.  Anything that is specific to the Alchemists, I store separately.

Here are a few features of the insert:

  • Separate player trays that hold the player components, including their starting ingredients, witch coins, overflow pot from Herb Witches, components specific to their player color (e.g., scoring marker), and their BGG GeekUp bag.
  • A consolidated in-game tray that holds sleeved fortune cards, rubies, and the white 1-chips that are added to the player bags in Round 6.
  • Separate trays for each ingredient type/color, with a curved front lip and a slot in the rear to hold each recipe up at an angle (similar to the slots I had on my Cubitos insert from a few years ago).  Each set of ingredients generally has a different number of 1, 2, and 4 chips, so most of the trays are unique and have slots specifically sized for that color’s chip quantities.  I decided not to add markings to the trays themselves to identify which colors go into each tray, but once you load them up the first time, you will always know which color goes back into each (unless you run into the unlikely scenario where two of the trays are completely depleted during a game).
  • Stands to hold up the Herb Witches, similar to how the ingredient trays hold up the recipes.
  • A custom-shaped spacer that holds the player pots in the base of the box.  I usually prefer to place player boards on top, but due to their odd shape and because essentially every tray has to come out of the box during setup anyway, I opted to place them in the bottom.

As shown in the photos, this was designed with the Northstar version of the game with an interior box dimension of 290 x 290 x 70 mm.  Based on comments online, I believe it will also work with versions published by others.

Really enjoyable read on following cryptocurrency and how it happened
Format: Hardcover
Andy Greenberg is a GREAT storyteller and podcaster. Anything he writes is a must read. Tracers in the Dark was a super enjoyable, easy read. He covers, using people and stories, the basics of bitcoin and the people who try to follow the money to catch cybercriminals. I knew most (but not all) of the people and stories he covered, but Greenberg added a ton of detail I didn't know. He added timelines and color that fleshed out what happened, in each story and the overall timeline. It's a great, easy, read and I'm a better cybersecurity defender for having read it. Although don't read it for any super technical details. You're not going to learn the details of blockchain, bitcoin, or blockchain analysis...only how it's done, generally, and the people involved.

Entertaining and frightening
Format: Hardcover
Incredible job taking these real life stories and situations and writing them in such a captivating way that really draws the reader in. As fascinating as the forensic aspect of the dark web activities and investigations are, there were some very disturbing and dark areas that the book justifiably went at some readers may find very uncomfortable so just be ready for that

An eye-opener for those that believe the dark web and cryptocurrency are anonymous
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
The author, Andy Greenberg, takes the reader through a series of actual whodunit cases where the blockchain is used to trace illicit transactions on the dark web. From corrupt FBI agents to drug sales on the Silk Road, culprits are rooted out by following cryptocurrency through the blockchain. Each case is different and often involves an international game of cat and mouse. In addition, the author discusses some of the ethical issues surrounding an anonymous currency. Most readers will find this book an easy and engaging read, even if they are not familiar with the blockchain.

Fascinating look at Bitcoin privacy
Format: Kindle
This is a great look at what Bitcoin is and isn’t. The misconceptions about it gave rise to tools to track it, leading to the high profile cases Greenberg covers in the book. Not a highly technical book, but there are enough references to papers and authors to find out more. Very cool,

Excellent non-fiction cryptocurrency sleuth story.
Format: Paperback
I thought this book was an excellent non-fiction account about how a team of "Cyber-Investigators" tracked and took down several criminals using Bitcoin for drug deals and other nefarious activities. The book read like a novel. I enjoyed it and had trouble putting it down.
