I first tried their Pre-Amp pedal courtesy of a friend that owned one and was not one bit disappointed. That playing experience has stuck with me ever since, it's a pedal that's on my personal wish list, and a pedal that I've wanted to stock here too!

The Florist is perhaps Bensons' most unique pedal release to date. With prior offerings sitting within the guitar-familiar preamp, boost, fuzz and bucket brigade delay territories, this creation and collaboration with Non-Human Audio (another pedal maker/brand) is super unique in it's sonic offerings. So much so, it is fairly hard to pigeon hole it with a function type/name. But if I were to be forced to try (seeing as us guitarists love to try and compare gear), I would liken it to a lo-fi chorus combined with delay based modulation personally. With a portion of the sounds able to be captured with it, one that sprung to mind upon hearing the Florist for the first time, was a pedal of which I am a huge huge fan of; the ZVEX instant lo-fi junky pedal. Upon first listening to this and in particular hearing it's chorus like settings, I personally was reminded of the Lo-fi junky overall, but instead the Florist appears an awful lot clearer tonally which is welcomed for sure and offers a broader scope of sounds and creativity in my opinion. We are seeing and hearing some delay like qualities with how it handles repeats and waves, which combined with the chorus-like tones is super dreamy and inspiring. What an interesting creation that I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing what players around the world create when using it.

What Benson say about the Florist...

In late 2023 we met Dave Jordan of Non-Human Audio at a pedal event in OKC. We were drooling over his unique Slow Loris modulated slap back effect and very excited to meet him. Chris and Dave were chatting about the Loris and Chris wound up offering to help him get the effect in a different and possibly more controllable way…mostly because it sounded fun.

Fast forward a couple swapped schematics and a few wild tangents and the Florist was born. We were both so inspired with the possibilities of the new approach that Dave suggested we keep pushing it into new territory and release it as a collaboration.

While the Florist starts with the core idea of the Slow Loris, it is something else entirely and is not a revision or modification of the original. For instance, the delay range on the Florist is way faster than the original. We also redesigned the signal path for higher fidelity, and use a compressor type detector circuit for controlling the delay speed. We add a second delay channel using its own different detector to try to achieve some through-zero flanging and tri-chorus sounds. The two wet signals and the dry signal have independent volume control (DRY, WET A, and WET B) to blend the signals together. The two wet signals have independent intensity controls (INTENSITY A and INTENSITY B) corresponding to the respective volume controls.

Finally, we add a latching footswitch feature called GHOSTS which creates feedback right on the verge of oscillation in both of the delay lines, leading to some very odd sounds.
The result is a versatile effects box that yields both borderline conventional sounds (it can sound great as a chorus or slapback) and a vast array of weirder sounds that defy categories... flanging, modulated reverb, notes flying everywhere in unpredictable ways, swirling high frequency sighs etc. It’s so weird and unique that it creates a scene whenever people try it out for the first time.

We are especially excited to see how people apply it to music production...vocals and drums and synths...the possibilities seem wild and endless.

How to control it

INTENSITY A - intensity of modulation for the first delay line
WET A - the volume of the first delay line
Dry - the volume of the dry signal
WET B - the volume of the second delay line
INTENSITY B - intensity of modulation for the second delay line

This pedal can be used as a unique take on a chorus, but its main function is making strange, hard-to-dene sounds to be used as either an enhancement or a more extreme sound effect. The presets are just suggestions based on settings that sound useful to our ears.

The smartest thing to do would be to use your own ears, as usual.

For orders that are placed on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday I have an order cut off time of 14:00GMT (with Royal Mail shipping services only) to allow me chance to process, pack and dispatch your order same day.
For non dispatch days (Saturday, Sunday, & Thursday) there is no order cut-off time, and these will be processed, packed and shipped on the closest following dispatch day.
