• Cult may not be the overdrive for you. No joke. Most overdrives today are derived from a pedal who name rhymes with Lube Reamer. Cult isn't. It is a one-transistor germanium overdrive descended from the most primitive germanium circuits of the '60s, notably the Dallas Rangemaster. Cult is no Rangemaster clone
• the parts, circuit, and tone are quite different. (It's certainly not a "treble booster" like the original). But Cult does display some rangemaster-like behavior.
• Pros: Ridiculously dynamic
• go from crystalline to crunch via touch and guitar knob settings. Explosive attack and presence you can't get from Reamer-type circuits.
• Cons: Germanium can be noisy. Not great for whisper quiet distortion. Cult works best with a bit of amp overdrive, so you need to turn up a bit. Cult doesn't compress like most overdrives, which may or may not suit your style. It doesn't smooth things over-it barks. Is it right for you? You tell me! -Joe Gore, San Francisco
