Philodendron Plowmanii is an exotic masterpiece of the rainforest—lush, bold, and unmistakably unique. Native to the tropical forests of Ecuador and Peru, this crawling Philodendron stuns with oversized, rippled foliage that boasts mesmerizing texture and rich, deep green hues kissed with silver and chartreuse. As it matures, each leaf becomes more sculptural, with dramatic pleats and undulating edges that feel like living, breathing art.

Unlike climbing varieties, the Plowmanii hugs the soil, spreading horizontally with thick, serpentine stems and vivid red petioles that add a fiery contrast to its cool-toned leaves. A true conversation piece, this plant brings grounded elegance and prehistoric jungle vibes to any plant lover’s home.

Why Philodendron Plowmani is Rare & Unique:

Philodendron Plowmanii is a sought-after collector’s species known for its unusual leaf texture, dramatic ruffles, and slow-spreading growth. Unlike many tropical aroids that climb, this one creeps—developing a thick rhizome that crawls along the soil surface like a mysterious jungle creature.

Its textured leaves feel almost quilted, a result of natural corrugation that develops more intensely with maturity. With its slower growth rate and limited availability from specialty growers, the Plowmanii is a true botanical treasure—not often found in chain garden centers and nurseries.

Why You’ll Love It 💚:

  • Ripple Royalty: Bold, rippled foliage with quilted texture and a sculptural form.
  • Creeping Beauty: Unique horizontal growth habit that sets it apart from climbers.
  • Statement Plant Energy: Eye-catching and rare—perfect for collectors and jungle-core interiors.

Plant Care FAQs: 🪴

  • Plant Type: Chill
  • Plant Vibe: Bougie Ground Crawler
  • Botanical Name: Philodendron plowmanii
  • Family: Araceae
  • Light Requirements: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Watering: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Don’t let it sit in soggy soil.
  • Humidity: Prefers 60-80% humidity. Thrives near a humidifier or in a naturally humid space.
  • Soil: Chunky, well-aerated mix. Loves orchid bark, coco coir, and perlite.
  • Mature Size: Crawling. Can spread 2–3+ feet wide given space.
  • Toxicity: Toxic if ingested—keep out of reach of pets and small children.

🏆 Pro Care: Give it space to sprawl in a wide, shallow pot or let it creep across a mossy surface. Wipe leaves gently to show off that quilted sheen and mist occasionally for extra lushness.

Plant Styling Tips: Showcase your Plowmanii in a low, earthy planter to emphasize its ground-hugging form. Pair it with sculptural home décor or jungle-themed interiors for an upscale Amazonian vibe. Perfect for plant shelves, coffee tables, or under a canopy of taller tropicals.

Tea Pairing: Sip on a cup of Oolong with floral undertones as you admire the flowing, textured beauty of your Plowmanii. The richness of the tea mirrors the deep tones of the foliage—soothing, grounded, and just a little wild.

With its sculptural ripples, rare creeping habit, and grounded elegance, the Philodendron Plowmanii is more than just a houseplant—it’s living art for the bold and the botanical.

A solid story that flowed well.
Format: Kindle
Overall an enjoyable tale besides one character I liked being in the story and then shortly after being out of the story. But it was a fun read with great characters but so many that weren't given enough time to shine at all or be seen more. Looking forward to the next in the series.

This spin-off debut is a satisfying fix my fellow cozy flapper-era amateur-sleuth addicts!
Format: Kindle
4.25 I have no excuse. I’ve never read or listened to “The Scottish Ladies' Detective Agency” even though somebody physically gave me the book. In my defense, my kindle app and audiobooks are more friendly for ADHD and pain management and I haven’t read a physical book in years. I was starting fresh with Lady Poppy and this first book launches a spinoff series. Who doesn’t love a historic mystery, especially set in Scotland? This has many of the hallmarks of a series in the genre and I never know whether to complain about the repetition—or even near clones—or celebrate the opportunity to feed my addiction. In some respects, I found this refreshing because Poppy is wealthy. It seems like every other female sleuth in the 1920s and 30s has an aristocratic (or aristocratic adjacent) background but is now dirt poor. There are enough stresses about money these days that I prefer to focus on the murder. This is a tangled web of a story and I thought it clever and I liked Poppy if for no other reason than she has a fantastic lab and appreciates him (and other dogs). Of course, Major Charlie (extra points for the awesome name) saves the day a time or two. Oh and Poppy having a law degree, even when women couldn’t practice law, was a great asset and very cool. That said, if she wasn’t a Lady and very attractive, she would not have gotten away with her brazen interference (even in comparison to other amateur sleuths). In terms of the audiobook version, the narrator was good in most respects. The voice of the handsome inspector (among other male characters) was so deep and low that it drove me a little crazy. Lady Constance also sounded masculine and I had to stop and think every time I heard that voice which was contrary to the character. Overall, she did a good job on the various Scottish accents, including Poppy’s sophisticated mix of the King ‘s English and a Scottish lilt. Otherwise, this mystery was clever and I’m sad that I have to wait for the next one. I would wait for several so that I could finally binge them, but I’m not that strong. P.S. Apparently, neither Lydia Travers nor “The Scottish Ladies' Detective Agency” are even recognized by Libby (which recognizes practically every author) and the books are only available through Kindle Unlimited or buying them or the audiobooks, thus the reason I have not read them. Maybe one day! I am reviewing advanced copies of this book and audiobook given to me by the publisher. All views are strictly my own. . #DeathattheHighlandLoch #NetGalley #bookreview #ADHDreader #lydiatravers #Scottishladydetective #Scotland #historicmystery

Excellent!!!
Format: Kindle
I'm so excited to begin a new series by Lydia Travers! I have missed our Maud McIntyre, but Lady Poppy is a delightful! Ms Travers weaves an intriguing tale with interesting characters and the hope of a sweet, budding romance. Do yourself a favor and get it. You Will enjoy reading it.

Unbelievable disappointment
Format: Kindle
The main character is silly, insipid, one dimensional, and completely unbelievable. A murder victim is discovered and for some reason she immediately believes she is the most qualified person to solve the crime. The supposed professional, the local inspector, let's her walk all over him. I couldn't make myself finish it and certainly won't be reading any more in the series. As far as the audible version, the narrator needs to study American accents more, maybe actually engage in conversation with Americans before trying the accent again. The most cringe worthy narration I've ever heard.

Great read
Format: Kindle
I really like this one. Even though the Poppy character is a bit stubborn and won’t accept she is not really a detective, yet. The rest of the characters and plot delightful. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
