Om Shri SadGuru SaiNathaya Nahama!
We will now start the stories of Sadguru Sai Baba from SaiSatCharitra chapter 3.
In the beginning of Chapter 3 we go through what Sai Baba had said in regard of His life-stories, while giving permission to Hemadpant about the same. And also before this is Sai Baba gives permission to Hemadpant for writing his Life-Stroy.
The second story in Sai SatCharitra starts from verse 72. We can read the first story from chapter 2 here.
In the year 1916 A.D. Hemadpant’s government service ended and a monthly pension was fixed for him. Also at the same time his pilgrimage to Shirdi also happened. It was the day of Gurupurnima and many devotees were present for Guru-Puja. Suddenly on his own accord and with genuine concern Anna Chinchanikar made a request to Baba, ‘Have compassion on him (Hemadpant) Baba. Do something for his growing family. Will the pension suffice? Give him some other job. Do something and ward off his worries.’
Sai Baba’s Teachings To Hemadpant.
Sai Baba replied, “O, some service he will get. But right now he should serve me and he will get happiness in life. His plates will always be full and his needs will be satisfied as long as he lives. If he always seek my protection with full faith in me, his troubles will end.
There are people who say that they will behave as they like, because they have strayed away from the path. And all those who have cast off the virtuous behaviour. First and foremost avoid them. If you see them coming change your route. Consider them to be frightful and do not let even their shadow touch you, even if it means bearing some pain. One who lacks in proper practices, is without character, thoughtless, without any purpose and who does not discriminate between right and wrong. How can such a person achieve the real purpose of life?
“Do not drive away anybody with disrespect, be it a dog, pig or a fly. For, without some bond of previous birth nobody comes to us.
“From now he(Hemadpant) should serve me and the almighty take pity on him. He will attain to the inexhaustible everlasting treasure.
How we should worship Sai Baba
“How should he worship? Do you know for certain who I am? For my (Sai’s) body is mortal while only Brahman is immortal and worthy of worship. So listen, I pervade the whole universe. Whatever exists in it living or nonliving Universe as name, form or shape is my manifestation as eightfold Prakriti. The mystical symbol ‘OM’ expresses me, and I alone, am the subject of that expression. There are many things in this manifested universe and all are filled with me. So, when there is nothing different from the self. What desire one can have? I am all-pervading in all the ten quarters of Universe.
“With the feeling of my all-pervasiveness, where the feeling of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ is dissolved, what (objects) can one desire for? For all is filled with Whole.
“Desires arises in mind and have no connection with Atma or real self. Since I (Sai Baba) am the embodiment of the Atman how can the desires stir? Worldly desires are of many kinds. But once the significance of ‘who am I’ is understood, they melt away like a dewdrop in the hot blazing sun’s rays.
“I am not the gross form with mind, intellect and other sense organs, nor the gigantic universe. Nor I am the unmanifest Brahmanda. I am the ancient seer without the beginning or end.
“In this way I am beyond gunas or the senses. I am not attracted to sensual pleasures. I am not the doer not I am the cause of any deed.
“Unveiling the real knowledge, true detachment will happen only when there is the realization that the intellect, mind and other sense organs are the gross instruments of physical body. Being unaware or unconscious of the real self itself is the appearance of Maya (the illusion that the world is real). Realization of the pure bliss is to know me, the essence of all being.
“To such a one as me, when the all the workings of mind is diverted, all the feelings are diverted, that is the true service and true worship to me. When one experiences the bliss of consciousness(Me) then he is in pure state which is knowledge. The Atman is Brahman; pure consciousness and bliss is Brahman. But the universe is not real and hence creates illusions about itself. In truth Brahman is me.
” I am Vasudev; I am Om; I am eternal, pure, enlightened and I give liberation. Worshiping Me with faith and devotion will only lead to self-upliftment. Thus knowing who I am, I should be truly worshipped. Surrender to me wholeheartedly and become one with Me.”
